President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson of Sweden.
The call addressed the Türkiye-Sweden relations and Sweden’s application for NATO membership.
President Erdoğan said Türkiye had thus far fully supported NATO’s open door policy, and that solidarity was an essential value within the Alliance in terms of both the security of the member countries and the collective security.
Underscoring that Türkiye had for long been pointing to its resentment over Sweden’s contact with individuals and so-called organizations controlled by the PKK/YPG/PYD terrorist organization, President Erdoğan stressed that FETO terrorist organization’s presence and activities in Sweden still continued.
President Erdoğan pointed out that the political, financial and weapon support Sweden had been providing to terrorist organizations should be brought to an end.
Noting that the claim that PKK/PYD/YPG was fighting DAESH did not reflect the reality, President Erdoğan said that Türkiye expected Sweden to take concrete and serious steps that showed it shared Türkiye’s concerns over PKK terrorist organization and its extensions in Syria and Iraq.
President Erdoğan further stated that the restrictions imposed by Sweden on Türkiye in defense industry following Operation Peace Spring, which Türkiye had to launch due to the terrorist threat originating from Syria against Türkiye, should be lifted as well.
