First Lady Emine Erdoğan attended the Turkish Green Crescent (Yeşilay) Society’s summit on combatting addiction in Istanbul.
Delivering a speech at the summit, titled “Vanguards of Freedom”, First Lady Erdoğan described addictions as prisons with millions of invisible prisoners, and said: “In today’s world, 1.3 billion people aged 15 and over are addicted to tobacco, 400 million to alcohol, and 292 million to drugs. The addiction industry keeps growing incessantly, luring one more person into its trap every moment. We are faced with a dark order that wears innocent masks, sugarcoating gambling as a ‘game’; and alcohol, drugs and social media as ‘entertainment’. We, however, know that great tragedies and massive destructions are taking place behind these very masks.”
