Speaking at the Special High-Level Event on Climate Action as part of the high-level week of the 80th UNGA, President Erdoğan said: “As we ramp up energy efficiency and the share of renewable energy, we also promote low-carbon technologies in industry. As of this year, we have increased the share of renewable energy in our total installed capacity to over 60 percent.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the Special High-Level Event on Climate Action as part of the high-level week of the 80th UNGA.

“The Climate Law we enacted in July constitutes an important step towards our net-zero emissions target for 2053. We continue our efforts to establish the emissions trade system, implement the green finance strategy and create a national green taxonomy. We have built our climate policies on seven pillars, namely energy, industry, construction, transportation, waste, agriculture, and forestry. We have set out our second national contribution declaration in a manner to cover all sectors and green gasses. With the policies we will implement in the economy, we aim to achieve a reduction of 466 million tons in emissions by 2035 and to lower our total emissions to 643 million tons. As we ramp up energy efficiency and the share of renewable energy, we also promote low-carbon technologies in industry,” President Erdoğan said.

“As of this year, we have increased the share of renewable energy in our total installed capacity to over 60 percent. We are rapidly strengthening the infrastructure, including electric vehicles, while also prioritizing railway investments. In line with our net-zero emissions target for 2053, we will continue transforming our key sectors. International cooperation in financing, accessibility and technology is imperative to achieve these goals. I would like to particularly emphasize that, together with our Water Efficiency Mobilization, the Zero Waste Movement—championed under the auspices of my wife, Emine Erdoğan, and carried to a global level—plays a critical role in our fight against climate change. We hope to crown all our efforts with the COP31, which we aim to host in 2026.”
