First Lady Emine Erdoğan sent a video message to the 4th Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen held in Kiev with the theme of “child safety”.
Drawing attention in her video message to the main theme of the Summit, which is child safety, First Lady Erdoğan said: “Unfortunately, protecting children’s right to live and ensuring that they grow up in secure and peaceful environment have turned into a global challenge in today’s world. However, the future of humanity would germinate with children.”
Stressing that the saying, “Children constitute the one-third of our current population but the whole of our future,” accurately describes this fact, First Lady Erdoğan added: “Nelson Mandela, who said, ‘What reflects the spirit of a society is its treatment to children’, stresses this fact as well. I want to voice this sentence once again in the name of the humanity and say that if we as the humanity want to see the reflection of our spirit, we should look at the current condition of the world’s children. That babies are wrapped in shrouds even before they are registered and that children deaths are considered to be war casualties prove how dark the spirit of today’s humanity is.”
Pointing out that while the wounds of the children in Ukraine and Syria have yet to be healed, the world is witnessing an unprecedented atrocity in Gaza, Mrs. Erdoğan went on to say: “Imagine a conflict zone where a child is killed every 10 seconds whereas nine out of 10 children are faced with a death from hunger and thirst. How can we afford to live in a world where a child in the middle of a war prefers dying to living by saying, ‘I am exhausted. I want to die and rest’? We owe to the children in Ukraine, Syria, Gaza and in other conflict zones a future which befits the humanity’s dignity and where they do not fight or die. We, by coming together with this awareness, believe in a dream of a fair and livable world for everyone.”
