Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador İbrahim Kalın’s Statement on President Erdoğan’s Visit to France

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will pay a visit to France on January 5, 2018 at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron of France.

President Erdoğan and President Macron will discuss bilateral and regional issues in their bilateral meetings and in the meetings between the delegations.

France is a prominent ally, an important commercial and economic partner of ours with which we enjoy nearly six-century-old historical and multidimensional relations. We maintain an intense dialogue with France at all levels in the face of global and regional challenges, particularly on the fight against terror. Our deep-rooted relations are further reinforced with mutual investments and major projects in a wide range of areas including energy, defense industry, science and technology, transportation, and culture and education. The Turkish people living in France, with a population of around 700,000, act as a bridge between our two countries.

The regional issues, particularly Al-Quds, Syria, Iraq and the fight against terror, as well as the Turkey-EU relations will be addressed during the visit.

Mr. President’s visit will serve to further advance our cooperation with France in a way that will benefit both our nations and the entire region.
