Statement on the Phone Call Between Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador İbrahim Kalın and US National Security Advisor General H.R. McMaster


Deputy Secretary General and Spokesperson of the Presidency Ambassador İbrahim Kalın spoke on the phone with US National Security Advisor General H.R. McMaster last night (Jan. 26, 2018).

Operation Olive Branch, which Turkey has launched, and maintains determinedly, within the framework of international law in order to ensure its own security as well as to help the people of Afrin; the ongoing fight against the PKK, PYD/YPG, DAESH and other terrorist organizations; and the political transition process in Syria were discussed in the phone call.

It was affirmed that no weapons would be given to the PYD/YPG and it was stressed that Turkey’s legitimate security concerns must be taken into consideration. It was also agreed that the two countries would act in close coordination to prevent any misunderstandings.

Presidential Spokesperson Kalın and General McMaster emphasized the importance of Turkey and the U.S., two NATO allies, developing relations at all levels based on mutual interests and respect.
