“We will shut our eyes to neither the regime’s oppression nor the terror in Syria”

Speaking at the AK Party’s district congresses in Istanbul, President Erdoğan said: “If a genuine step for the security, peace, future and rights of the Syrian people is to be taken in Syria, first of all the same principled stance must be displayed toward both the regime and all terrorist organizations including DAESH and the PYD. The Syrian people shouldn’t be made obliged to make a choice between the regime’s oppression and terrorist organizations.”

President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the Fatih, Başakşehir and Avcılar district congresses of the AK Party in Istanbul.

A DIFFERENT GAME IS BEING PLAYED IN SYRIA

Pointing out that following the chemical attack of the Syrian regime, an operation was conducted against regime targets by the US, the UK and France, President Erdoğan said: “It’d have been unthinkable to let the attacks the regime had carried out various times in the past as well go unresponded. In this regard, we find the operation appropriate.”

Stating that the Syrian regime has seen with this operation that its inhumane and unlawful attacks on the opposition will not be left unresponded, President Erdoğan noted: “However, we believe that this sensitivity displayed to the chemical attack must also be displayed to the hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians the regime has massacred with conventional weapons.”

Drawing attention to the fact that the civilians killed with conventional weapons are a lot more than the ones martyred with chemical weapons, President Erdoğan continued: “Unfortunately, a different game is being played in Syria. First, the regime’s oppression was ignored, then a terrorist organization was covertly supported and put on the ground and finally the main project has been put into practice through another terrorist organization.”

Mentioning that they have already unraveled this game, President Erdoğan added: “If a genuine step for the security, peace, future and rights of the Syrian people is to be taken in Syria, first of all the same principled stance must be displayed toward both the regime and all terrorist organizations including DAESH and the PYD. The Syrian people shouldn’t be made obliged to make a choice between the regime’s oppression and terrorist organizations.”

“THE ONLY POWER THAT MAKES THE PLACES UNDER ITS CONTROL IN SYRIA LIVABLE AGAIN IS TURKEY”

Stressing that as Turkey, they want to clear the Syrian soil of all terrorist organizations and make those places secure and livable, President Erdoğan underlined that they will continue to fight to this end and added: “Those who equate Turkey’s existence in Syria with their projects will do Syrian people an injustice in the first place.”

Stating that the only power that makes the places under its control in Syria livable again with their security and infrastructure is Turkey, President Erdoğan said that this truth will be better realized when the areas in which Turkey has been conducting operations and the areas in which the regime and those who have been making their presence felt through terrorist organizations have been conducting operations are compared.

President Erdoğan also said that he made a phone call with British Prime Minister Theresa May and that they discussed the operation conducted in Syria. Mentioning that he is in touch with the Russian President and that he will also speak with the French and US Presidents, President Erdoğan said: “We have to make our plans and programs very carefully. We will continue to proceed on the course that we think is right both for us and for our Syrian brothers and sisters. We will neither consent to the regime’s oppression nor give a chance to the PYD or DAESH terrorist organizations.”
