NSC Statement: “If the terrorists in Manbij are not removed from the region, Turkey will not hesitate to take initiative”

The written statement, issued after the National Security Council (NSC) meeting chaired by President Erdoğan, read: “It was stated that the terrorists in Manbij should be immediately removed from the region, otherwise Turkey will not hesitate to take initiative there by itself, as it did in other areas. It was underlined that we have the same determination concerning the terrorists nested on Syrian soil at the east of the Euphrates.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired the National Security Council meeting at the Presidential Complex.

In the written statement issued after the meeting, it was stated that international matters which concern Turkey closely as well as the internal and external developments that affect the security and safety of the country were discussed, and that all aspects of the fight against terror were reviewed during the meeting.

“FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM WAS THOROUGHLY REVIEWED”

Expressing that the measures advised by the Council and taken within the rule of law against every kind of threats to our national security, notably the actions of project terrorist organizations such as PKK/PYD-YPG, DAESH and FETO/PDY (Fethullah Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Structure) were assessed, the statement said: “The anti-terror fight, which is waged with the same determination outside the country as it is done at home, was thoroughly reviewed.”

Affirming the determination concerning the meticulous implementation of all the measures against the potentiality of the terrorist organization tending once again attacks inside our country since it cannot hold on in face of Turkey’s operations outside our country despite all the support it has been given, the statement read: “The Council was briefed on ‘Operation Olive Branch’ which has been carried out to neutralize the terrorists organizing attacks on our country; to ensure Turkey’s border security; to contribute to the regional and global peace; to enable the displaced Syrians to return to their country and to help the preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity.”

“MEASURES WHICH NEED TO BE TAKEN TO ENABLE THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SYRIANS TO LIVE SECURELY IN THE PLACES THEY RETURN TO WERE REVIEWED”

It was noted in the statement that the hearty support of the Syrians, who have been rescued from the oppression and the persecution of terrorist organizations by means of Operation Olive Branch carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces together with the Free Syrian Army, which is composed of Kurds, Arabs and Turkmens, was particularly stressed and it was also stated that the works on putting into practice the measures which need to be taken to enable the hundreds of thousands of Syrians, who are being hosted in Turkey and who are the true owners of the region, to live in secure, peace and prosperity in the places they return to, were reviewed.

The statement also said: “The international community should be informed once again that the separatist terrorist organization, which has armed people who are at a very young age, has used innocent civilians as human shield and has committed all sorts of crimes against humanity, including ethnic cleansing in Afrin as well as in other places it invaded, is in collaboration with DAESH.”

“THE ACTIVITIES OF THE TERRORIST ORGANIZATION IN THE REGION MUST BE FIRST PREVENTED BY THE STATE OF IRAQ”

It was emphasized in the statement that the terrorists in Manbij should be immediately removed from the area, otherwise Turkey will not hesitate to take initiative here by itself, as it did in other areas and it was underlined that Turkey has the same determination concerning the terrorists nested on Syrian soil at the east of the Euphrates.

The statement said: “It was noted that aside from Syria, it is expected that the activities of the separatist terrorist organization, which has settled in various parts of Iraq, notably Sinjar and Qandil, in the area be first prevented by Iraqi state and if it is not possible, Turkey will prevent them by itself.”

It was also noted in the statement that the Council was briefed on visits to some countries and individual meetings within the period and on other external political developments and that the strategies which might be followed were reviewed. Stating that a general review was made on the developments in Cyprus, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea and that especially Greece’s attitudes and behaviors which have no place in good neighborly relations are being closely followed, the statement concluded as follows: “It was reemphasized that there will be no concession from Turkey’s rights and interests.”
