“We Won’t Allow Steps That Will Threaten Iraq’s Territorial Integrity”

President Erdoğan, with regard to the IKRG’s referendum decision and the remarks by the IKRG leader Barzani, said: “I do not find it appropriate at all that he engages in an effort to conduct certain operations there despite knowing our sensitivity about Iraq’s territorial integrity and Kirkuk’s status as a special territory.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a joint broadcast on ATV, A Haber and A News and answered Banu El and Salih Nayman’s questions.

In answer to a question about his comment on the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government’s (IKRG) referendum decision and the remarks by the IKRG leader Barzani which shows that he insists on the decision, President Erdoğan described the remarks as “very wrong”, and said: “I do not find it appropriate at all that he engages in an effort to conduct certain operations there despite knowing our sensitivity about Iraq’s territorial integrity and Kirkuk’s status as a special territory.”

“OUR SENSITIVITY WILL BE SEEN MORE CLEARLY AFTER THE NSC MEETING”

Recalling that Turkey stood with the IKRG through its most difficult times, President Erdoğan stated that the steps taken regarding the referendum unavoidably pushed them toward a new decision process, and said: “We were going to hold our National Security Council (NSC) meeting on September 27 but we moved up the meeting date to the 22nd of September by putting the referendum issue on the agenda. Following the NSC meeting, the Government will hold its Council of Ministers meeting. We will make our final decision on the issue on September 22.”

“How heightened our sensitivity regarding this issue is will be seen more clearly after the National Security Council and Council of Ministers meetings on September 22,” the President said.

“I see this as something beyond abdication of reason. This is political inexperience. There cannot be such an understanding of politics,” President Erdoğan said.

“STEPS TAKEN BY CERTAIN US INSTITUTIONS OVERSHADOW THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION”

Recalling the incidents that took place during his visit to the US, President Erdoğan noted that the US security forces did not intervene in the demonstrations by the PKK and FETO members and underlined that arrest warrants were issued by US authorities for members of his security detail who weren’t there and didn’t even participate in the visit. “When we look at it later, we see that it all comes down to the FETO, because they unfortunately are working together. It is happening because there are attorneys there working with them. It later on came to light what kind of an organization led to the verdicts about our Economy Minister Mr. Zafer Çağlayan and the lower management of Halk Bankası. I said it during a recent press conference. The expressions, used by the FETO team in the investigations during the December 17-25 period, are used here.”

“There are truly problematic approaches regarding the process. The wrong steps taken by certain such authorities under the Trump administration in the US unavoidably overshadow the Trump administration. I think it should not be allowed.”

TURKEY’S SENSITIVITY ABOUT THE RAKHINE STATE

Regarding the humanitarian tragedy in the Rakhine state, Myanmar, President Erdoğan said: “The picture in the Rakhine state is a disaster, a great tragedy.” Recalling the visit by First Lady Erdoğan, Bilal Erdoğan, the Foreign Minister, the Family and Social Policies Minister, the Turkish Red Crescent, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) to Bangladesh to see the situation on site, President Erdoğan said that Turkey asked the Bangladesh government to allocate land to build modern camps for the Rohingya.
