H. E. President Abdullah Gül issued a statement as to the terrorist assault on our security officers which claimed 10 soldiers’ lives in the southeastern county of Beytussebap.

“We are all very sad as to the fact that 10 soldiers were martyred during the terrorist assault in the southeastern county of Beytussebap, Sırnak.

These brutal people who have made our nation go through this sorrow will in one way or another pay for what they have done. Those carrying out such inhumane activities have demonstrated to the whole of the world once again what dirty and heinous objectives they have indeed despite all the reforms, the firm and democratic steps Turkey has taken so far.

The terrorist organization targeting innocent people including civilians, women and children will sooner or later will pay for their deeds along with those abroad who support these vicious and heinous terrorists. This everyone should know: Those who see this atmosphere as a great opportunity to seize today will face a great disappointment in the end.

No one should regard the state's affection for its people and its resoluteness and sensitivity to protect innocent citizens as a weakness. It would be nothing but an illusion for those who think they could harm the union and solidarity of the country by resorting to violence and weapons. No one can achieve this.

Turkey, no matter how big its agonies may be, will continue to fight against terrorism by protecting its citizens and their rights within the framework of democracy and law.

I would like to offer my thanks and gratitude to our security forces who are fighting against terrorism valiantly. I wholeheartedly share the sorrow of the families of our martyrs. May all of our martyrs rest in peace and I hope our wounded soldiers recuperate very soon.”
