H.E. President Abdullah Gül’s Message on Eid Al-Fıtr

My dear fellow citizens,

We are happy to welcome Eid Al-Fıtr, one of the fundamentals of our union and solidarity. I hope this Ramadan Festival brings every blessing to the Turkish and Islamic world as well as all of humanity.

I also hope our beautiful country has a peaceful festival. In this vein, I celebrate my citizens’ Eid Al-Fıtr.

Festivals which enable people to enjoy peace, happiness, fraternity and tolerance in the strongest way and which create an atmosphere in which they live and share the human values in the best way have a special place in social life. We should not forget that festivals that teach people good manners, social ethics, respect for the elderly and affection for children. These are also the special days during which union and solidarity and the feeling of living together in peace are enhanced. I belive that our august nation will evaluate this festival in this very understanding.

My august fellow citizens,

While  we are enjoying these feelings in this Eid Al Fıtr today, we, alas, have agony in our hearts due to the terrorist assaults and the ongoing human tragedy in both the region and other parts of the world

No matter how deep such sorrows are, our nation and our state will resolutely continue to fight against terrorism and respond to those who threat our union and solidarity. It is our priority to provide an atmosphere of peace, amity and tolerance for our citizens so that they can look to the future with confidence. I would like to reiterate once again that we will never ever allow those who try to spoil peace among us and who aim to prevent the country’s development. I hereby remember our martyrs and war veterans with gratitude.”

The ongoing massacre in Syria concerns all of humanity very much. One should not think that Turkey would remain indifferent to this human tragedy in this country. It is our heartfelt wish that the blood shed in Syria ceases and and that our Syrian brothers and sisters have peace without delay. Turkey will continue to do her best for the sake of peace, security and stability in the region and in the world.

Festivals are also the days when people enjoy love, mutual help and solidarity. It is the day when we should help and embrace those who fight against starvation, hunger and poverty in whatever country they are experienced. I am sure that our nation will reach out to those in need as it has always done.

My dear fellow citizens,

Turkey is on her way as a strong country at a time the world is going through turmoil .A brighter future awaits Turkey and the Turkish nation is looking to its future with confidence.

The very level Turkey has reached in such areas as the economy, democracy and human rights is one of our country’s most important achievements. There are still some issues to deal with rising from the practices for all the relevant regulations, reforms and laws. We all should be sensitive and display tireless efforts so that Turkey can become an advanced democracy and in order that we can build a stronger and more prosperous Turkey with its citizens enjoying the best living standards.

We should realize that Turkey is developing and keeping its stability despite many external factors. We should cherish our country.

It is our most important power that our nation sees differences and diversities as its richness and it has robust bonds among its members. The very fundamental of our strength is our union and solidarity which we have cherished for centuries. I would like to underscore once again that this land belongs to us all. Everyone is a noble citizen with equal rights. We will continue to live in peace side by side and enjoy tolerance and mutual respect in this land as we have have been doing for centuries. We will overcome our problems with self confidence and embrace the future together.

I hereby once again celebrate the Eid Al Fıtr of all Turkish citizens in the country and abroad, the Turkic and Islamic world and I hope that this festival brings joy and every blessing to the Turkish nation and all of humanity.
