1st International Seljuk Symposium

Organized by Erciyes University’s Research and Implementation Center for the Turkic World aiming that the Seljuk era can be understood better, the 1st International Seljuk Symposium, under President Abdullah Gül’s aegis, was held in Kayseri from September 27-30, 2010.

Some 150 scientists from 28 countries from the today’s representatives of the then Seljuk geography attended the symposium during which the studies conducted on the Seljuk era were discussed in detail in the light of new knowledge

The participants also exchanged their views on the scientific, historical and cultural civilization of the Seljuk era between the 11th and 14th century.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE STATESMEN AND VIBRANT COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES DURING THE SELJUK ERA

President Gül issued a congratulatory message in which he said Anatolia, opening its doors to the Turks with the victory of Malazgirt in 1071, witnessed a great civilization develop. When the Seljuk people settled in the area, he noted, this geography became one of the world’s most prosperous regions, stating: “During the Seljuk era, Anatolia enjoyed a lively atmosphere. Both the successful management of the statesmen and the vibrant commercial activities made the region a  center of attraction. During that era, Anatolia was one of the symbolic centers where the harmony and tolerance between civilizations were enjoyed in the best way, becoming a great example for humanity.”
