World School Chess Championship

World School Chess Championship

The World School Chess Championship, under the aegis of First Lady Hayrünnisa Gül, was held from July 21-30, 2010 in Kayseri.

Some 500 players from 30 different countries attended the championship organized by Turkish Chess Federation (TFC). Players between 7 and 17 years old completed in the Championship among 12 categories. The Turkish team won the gold medal in the competition.

The championship, to which all those in the chess federations under the World Chess Federation (FIDE) have been invited, bears great significance as it will draw the attention of the world public opinion to both chess and raise the public’s interest in this sport.

Information Technology (BT) Classrooms Project

The BT Classrooms Project was launched under the aegis of the First Lady, Hayrünnisa Gül, to help provide schools across the country with information technology classrooms.

The project aims to enable students to use information technologies and keep abreast of recent developments in the world, that they might one day lead these developments themselves.

As part of this project, Hakkari and Van have been provided with 5 classrooms each; furthermore, 5 classrooms in Diyarbakır, 3 classrooms in Batman , 2 classrooms in Şanlıurfa and 2 classrooms in Mardin have been opened.
