ISCI Chairman Visits President Gül

President Abdullah Gül received the Chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, and his accompanying delegation at the Çankaya Presidential Palace.

Declaring all the Iraqi people to be Turkey’s brothers and sisters, President Gül, revealing his happiness to receive al-Hakim, who has visited Turkey for the third time in three years, underscored the importance of the fact that the Iraqi people, after the very tough process they have left behind, live in union and solidarity and enjoy prosperity and democracy. The President further suggested that, during the process followed by the withdrawal of the American troops from the Iraqi soil, the Iraqi administration act with common sense and take heed to all walks of life in the country.

Chairman al-Hakim, evincing his pleasure to be received by President Gül, proclaimed that all the Iraqi people bear great affection and love for Turkey, which he said has always demonstrated its corroboration for his country, expressing his appreciation for the impartial stance of Turkey toward all parties in Iraq. The very tangible demonstration of this objective approach of Turkey, he stressed, is that it has consul generals in Basra, Mosul and Arbil, further reiterating that the problems Iraq faces can be sorted out through common mindset and a dialogue mechanism among the parties including the Shiite, Sunni, Arab, Kurdish, Turkmen ones.
