President Gül granted the 2011 Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Award to Prof. Dr. Semavi Eyice in Art History; to Sezai Karakoç in Literature; to Doğan Hızlan in Criticism and to Hasan Çelebi in Traditional Arts.
The 2011 Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards Ceremony was held with the participation of President Abdullah Gül at the Çankaya Presidential Palace.
The President, at the very beginning of his speech, evinced his happiness to welcome his guests to the Presidential Palace during the ceremony, noted that they each year give such awards to distinguished men and women of science and artists in the country, pointing to the significance of these people for the nation to continue on their path with confidence. They, he declared, always act with common sense and show the right path. “We should cherish them all the time!” he exclaimed.
The awards they have presented to the men and women of science, culture and arts are the demonstration of the appreciation that the nation feels for them, stated the President, who asserted that Turkey, in science and the R&D area, has greatly progressed. “I wholeheartedly believe that our august nation which has for centuries created great things universally will continue to do this.”
President Gül, further lauding Sezai Karakoç, Prof. Dr. Semavi Eyice, Hasan Çelebi and Doğan Hızlan for their great contribution to the areas they have been working in, predicted that in the future the influence of the Turkish culture and arts in the whole world will be witnessed.
The 2011 Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards were presented to Prof. Dr. Semavi Eyice in Art History; to Sezai Karakoç in Literature; to Doğan Hızlan in Criticism and to Hasan Çelebi in Traditional Arts.
The Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards are granted on behalf of the Turkish State to Turkish citizens, those of foreign descent and agencies that contribute to the Turkish cultural and art life and that raise the standards of the country’s culture and arts for the purpose of honoring and encouraging these people according to the “Statute for the Presidential Culture and Arts Grand Awards” issued on January 20, 1995 in the Official Gazette.
