
Delivering an address during the TUBITAK 2011 Science, Special, Service and Incentive Awards and TUBITAK-TWAS Incentive Award Ceremony held under his aegis at the Çankaya Presidential Palace, President Gül, pointing to human resources and amenities as the two significant legs for the development of technology, declared that the number of Turkish students conducting doctorate studies in the States is more than that of the French, German and British ones.
The most prestigious awards for the Turkish scientific world, the TUBITAK 2011 Science, Special, Service and Incentive Awards and TUBITAK-TWAS Incentive Award Ceremony were held under his aegis at the Çankaya Presidential Palace.
THE STATE’S VISIBLE CORROBORATION FOR SCIENTIFIC STUDIES
The President, laying a great emphasis upon the research and development in the scientific studies, said this award ceremony under his aegis demonstrates that the state fully corroborates and urges these studies and noted that the future of nations and states are shaped by their scientific and technological developments, lauding the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and Turkish universities for establishing this kind of understanding and creating an awareness regarding this issue.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AS AN IMPETUS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH
Science and technology, the President proclaimed, are the impetus for the economic development and indicated the importance of encouraging the youth so that they can be interested in these areas, mentioning the necessity of the cooperation between universities and other real world sectors to take advantage of the technological development in the economy.
President Gül, pointing to human resources and amenities as the two significant legs for the development of technology, declared that the number of Turkish students conducting doctorate studies in the States is more than that of the French, German and British ones. Turkey, he declared, offers more opportunities and amenities for such studies and informed his audience that it allocated almost 1% of the national income to the research and development area last year.
The President ended his speech as follows: “Science, technology and research and development will greatly contribute to Turkey in her achieving her goals in the future. This area is the locomotive for the country. Turkey is reorganizing its agencies as per this fact.”
President Gül, afterwards, congratulated the awardees.

The President, after the award ceremony, explained the reasons behind his veto of recent amendments the Parliament has passed for the law pertinent to sports crimes, pointing to the cruciality of the balance between the sentence and crime.
