Turkish Scientific World's Most Prestigious Awards Presented


During the ceremony for the 2010 TÜBİTAK (the Scientific and Social Research Council of Turkey) Science, Service, Incentive and Special Awards, held under President Gül’s auspices at the Çankaya Presidential Palace, President Gül noted that such activities would promote Turkey, augmenting its eminence and pride.

The most prestigious awards of Turkey’s Scientific World, the 2010 TÜBİTAK Science, Service, Service, Incentive and Special Awards as well as the Incentive Award of the TWAS (The Academic Sciences for the Developing World) were presented to the awardees during a ceremony held under President Abdullah Gül’s aegis at the Çankaya Presidential Palace.

In his speech, President Gül attached great importance to the activities in culture, science and technology for which the awards were given at the Presidency, which he said demonstrates the state’s encouragement for such activities. He further drew attention to the considerable progress in the R&D areas in Turkey and underlined the importance of the quality of the academic publications to which the world would refer. He also mentioned the relevant laws passed recently and huge funds allocated for scientific researches.
 


TURKISH SCIENTISTS’ ACHIEVEMENTS

Today, President Gül further informed the audience that the project portfolio that Turkish institutions and scientists participate in is almost 1.1 billion euros, saying: “The very close working atmosphere among scientists, TÜBİTAK and universities is creating huge synergies.”

The President also predicted that Turkey’s capacity in the R&D and other scientific and technological activities besides its huge trade volume, investments and tourism capacity will include Turkey in the BRIC countries, referring to great developments in Turkish institutions including the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) at whose R&D departments 900 engineers work.

NANOTECHNOLOGY CENTERS

The President, reiterating that in the private sector there are great developments as well, shared his hope that the nanotechnology centers of both Bilkent University and Sabancı University will make tremendous impacts in this area throughout the world in the near future. He also underscored the close cooperation between medical schools and hospitals, which he asserted enhances the very achievements of the former, adding that faculties of engineering have made great progress especially by means of techno cities which provide collaboration between the industrial world and universities.

Such activities contribute to the promotion of Turkey and augments its eminence and pride across the world, he declared and further said: “We will continue to support these activities at all levels.”

The President later congratulated the awardees and presented them their prizes.
