Turkey-Afghanistan-Pakistan Tripartite Summit Held in Istanbul


President Gül delivered the keynote speech at the Turkey-Afghanistan-Pakistan Tripartite Summit, during which he evinced: “The very unshakeable historical amity we see between our peoples makes us closer to one another.”

President Abdullah Gül hosted a luncheon for the head of delegations at the Four Seasons Hotel; afterwards, the three leaders proceeded to the Çırağan Palace, where the summit would be held. After the family photo was taken, they launched the summit at the opening of which President Gül made a speech.

 

 

SPECIAL RELATIONS AMONG THE THREE COUNTRIES

Declaring the tripartite relations between Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan to be very special, President Gül pointed to the resolute ties between the three peoples, noting: “The very unshakeable historical amity we see between our peoples makes us closer to one another.”

The President, underscoring the considerable progress the Tripartite Summit between Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan has made since it was first launched in April 2007, asserted that the process of the Tripartite Summits has become a platform where many a tangible projects are implemented for the good of the peoples and region.

RELATIONSHİP BETWEEN SECURITY AND DEVELOPMENT

Between the participating countries, the President cited, the necessary atmosphere has been created in which amity and partnership can make their way on a robust ground, continuing: “As leaders, we should put into practice the existing potential on the basis of the vision we have determined for the future. As part of this, I would like to draw your attention to the relationship between security and development.” He further stressed the importance of consolidating the necessary legal and physical infrastructure and supporting the business world.

RAILWAY CONNECTION BETWEEN TURKEY AND PAKISTAN

Referring to the significance of the rail connection between Turkey and Pakistan, President Gül, recalling that the first testing service was launched on August 14, 2009 between Islamabad and Istanbul, stressed the effectuality of the line on which Turkey sent aid stuff in 15 trains to the victims of the earthquake hit by the flood disaster. The President also suggested that the railway connection should be developed in the way it includes Afghanistan, mentioning the necessity to strengthen the communication, airway, trade and energy connection between the three countries.
