President Abdullah Gül attended the briefing on tourism held in honour of Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov.
During the meeting, which was sponsored by the Turkish Association of Travel Agents (TÜRSAB), the Turkish Hoteliers Federation (TÜROFED), the Tourism Investors' Association (TYP), the Foreign Economic Relations Council (DEİK), and the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodities Exchanges (TOBB), President Gül indicated that the large development projects launched by Mr. Berdymukhammedov in Turkmenistan also encompass tourism investments.
From Avaza to Antalya
Mr. Gül explained that during his visit to Turkmenistan last year, he and Mr. Berdymukhammedov had discussed how the Avaza region on the Caspian Sea coast could be restructured by making use of the experiences of Turkish tourism investors. He had therefore invited Mr. Berdymukhammedov to Antalya so that he could meet Turkish tourism investors and entrepreneurs and convey his requirements and projects to them, and observe on the spot the success of Turkish tourism sector.
Turkish businessmen's achievements
Mr. Gül pointed out that the Turkish businessmen would undertake successful projects according to the requirements of the Turkmen president, and these would be a source of pride both for Turkmenistan and for the Turkish nation. "I would like to express my thanks to him for paying a visit to our country, though for all too brief a time. We had a very good conservation last night that lasted until midnight. Today, we would like to share with you the points we discussed. He will tell you what he has in mind. Once again, I would like to welcome him. I am more than delighted to offer him our hospitality here," he said.
Later, the two leaders took a boat trip to inspect the tourist projects in Antalya and they also conducted a tête-à-tête meeting.
Dinner in honour of the Turkmen president
Mr. Gül conversed with Mr. Berdymukhammedov during the dinner he held in his honour yesterday. The two leaders also discussed their bilateral relations and the areas for potential cooperation in the fields of tourism and energy. Mr. Berdymukhammedov expressed his intention over dinner to benefit from Turkey's experience in the field of tourism, while Mr. Gül promised that Turkey would lend extensive support to friendly and brotherly Turkmenistan.
Also discussed during the talks were the current status of Turkish investments in Turkmenistan and the problems Turkish businessmen face in Turkmenistan.
