
Presenting the medals, cups and suits to the first three athletes at the end of the last stage of the 48th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, which Ivalio Gabrovski from Konya Turku Şekerspor completed as the winner, President Gül said the tour promotes Turkey pretty well and predicted that it will be one of the world’s greatest such competitions in 2014, which will mark its 50th anniversary.
President Abdullah Gül watched the last stage of the 48th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey along with the Istanbul Governor, Hüseyin Mutlu.
The President, presenting the medals to the first three athletes at the end of the Istanbul stage, Theo Bos, Andrew Fenn and Stefan Van Dijk respectively, also gave the Turquoise suit to Ivalio Gabrovski from Konya Torku Şekerspor, the winner of the general classifications; the green suit to Matthew Goss, who came first as per the sprint points; the red suit to Marco Mandiera, who ended the race as the first athlete in the climb classification and the white suit to Maxim Belkov in the classification of Turkey’s beauties. President Gül later presented the winner cup to Astana for becoming the best team.
The President, evincing his pride in the fact that an athlete from the Turkish team won the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, which he declared promotes Turkey very well and which was broadcast live by TV stations from 130 countries, offered his congratulations to the Youth and Sports Ministry, Cycling Federation of Turkey, Directorate of Youth and Sports, Turkish Airlines, the relevant governors and other officials and agencies. The cycling tour, he said, also demonstrated the natural beauties of the country and predicted that it will be one of the world’s greatest such competitions in 2014, which will mark its 50th anniversary.
The President afterwards had a memoir photo taken with the little cyclists from Konya Torku Şekerspor and was presented a bike by Youth and Sports Director General Baykan and Cycling Federation of Turkey Chairman Müftüoğlu.
The Dutch Consul General Onno Kervers also presented President Gül a bike on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the bilateral relations between Turkey and the Netherlands.
