First Presidential Visit by Indonesia in 25 Years

President Gül welcomed his Indonesian counterpart, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, with an official ceremony at the Çankaya Presidential Palace.

After the national anthems of both countries had been played, the two Presidents had a tete-a-tete, a part of which the First Ladies also attended.

As part of President Yudhoyono’s visit, the opportunities for further cooperation between the two countries will be reviewed and both bilateral and international issues, including the ICO, G-20 and D-8 will be discussed as well.

Having had a tete-a-tete, the two Presidents chaired the talks between their delegations. It was reported that Indonesia would open a consulate in Istanbul. Furthermore, it was agreed that the visa requirements would totally be lifted.

The visit has a particular importance in that it is the first Presidential visit to Turkey by Indonesia in 25 years.
